How do I track brand mentions across social platforms in real time?

Real-time tracking is partly a tool question and partly a set-up question. Here is how to build a monitor that finds mentions, including those that never name you, and tells the right people quickly.

The short answer.

To track brand mentions across social platforms, define your brand, products and competitors as topics, filter out irrelevant content first, analyse video, images, text and comments for mentions of every kind, and set alerts for unusual changes so the right people are told in Slack. How fast results arrive depends on each platform’s data and on the tool, so ask any vendor for a clear answer. Noodle4 provides alerts and anomaly detection and sends them to Slack and Slack Connect.

By the numbers

Audiences expect fast responses, which sets the bar for how quickly you need to know.

68%
of consumers expect a reply from a brand within 24 hours (Sprout Social, Aug 2026)
14%
expect a brand to reply in under an hour (Sprout Social, Aug 2026)

Figures are as reported by each source. Sample sizes and dates are listed under Sources.

What “real time” really means

Nobody sees every post the second it appears. Platforms limit how data can be collected, and analysing video takes longer than reading text. So treat “real time” as a question to ask: how long from a post going live to a result and an alert reaching me?

Be wary of an unqualified claim. A good vendor will tell you how quickly each platform and content type is processed, and what limits apply.

The kinds of mention

Keyword tracking finds only the first. The other three are where most of the missed mentions are, which is why analysing the video and the comments matters.

  • Written. Your name in a caption, hashtag or comment.
  • Spoken. Your name in the audio, including mispronunciations.
  • Shown. Your product or logo in the video or image, with no name.
  • Implied. A comment about “this one” under a video of your product.

How to set it up

  1. List what to track. Brand, products, campaign names, creators, and common misspellings.
  2. Add exclusions. Giveaways, unrelated meanings of your name, and spam.
  3. Choose platforms. TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit and X.
  4. Create categories. Such as praise, product issue, question, claim, and competitor.
  5. Set alerts. Decide who is told what, and in which channel.

Alerts that get used

An alert nobody acts on is noise. Keep alerts few and meaningful. Good ones cover a rise in a category, an unusual spike, a claim or disclosure problem, and a competitor move. Noodle4 has alerts and anomaly detection, with delivery to Slack and Slack Connect, so partners can be in the same channel.

Cut the noise first

The more irrelevant content you analyse, the slower and more expensive monitoring is, and the more your team has to clean up. Noodle4 filters out irrelevant content before analysis, with models that are cheaper to run than the analysis step, so you pay for relevant content.

What Noodle4 includes

Noodle4 is a full social intelligence platform, not only a video tool. It reviews text as well as video and images, and it includes:

  • Text, video and image review. Reads captions, on-screen text, spoken words, images and comments, so the whole piece of content is understood.
  • Taxonomies. Organise content and comments into your own categories, so results match how your team thinks.
  • Visual-level SKU tracking. Spot products and SKUs as they appear in videos and images, not only when they are named in text.
  • Classifications. Every piece of content and every comment is classified by topic, type and relevance.
  • Anomaly detection. Flags unusual spikes and shifts, so you see what is trending before it spreads.
  • Slack and Slack Connect. Reviews, risks and reports go to your team’s channels, and to shared channels with partners.
  • MCP. Ask about your creators, campaigns and social intelligence from Claude, Cursor or any MCP client.
  • API. Send content in and get structured results back from your own systems.

That covers social listening, brand monitoring, influencer screening and monitoring, content review and reporting in one place. It is priced on usage, not seats, from £99 a month.

How we know this

These notes come from building Noodle4’s review and listening pipelines, not from a published academic sample. Cost curves, intent splits, and ASR collisions are from internal R&D and client-shaped tests. They will not match every category. We include them because the failure mode is structural — not because one campaign is universal.
